Playing a Synthesizer:

Synthesizers construct tools and devices that utilize various forms of Kori energy as power sources. While some of the standard technology in the world is powered by Kori energy, these are still average devices capable of accomplishing normal tasks. Synthesizers push scientific boundaries by exploiting the volatile power of raw Kori sources. Tampering with the unknown requires bold or ambitious personalities, and Synthesizers are not a timid lot.

Anyone has the capability to be a Synthesizer, as long as they have access to the Kori necessary and a bit of know-how along the way. Motivations cover a broad range: scientific curiosity, self-betterment, the desire to aid others, personal power, greed, and ambition. This also means devices are as varied as their architects; weapons, armors, consoles, accessories, launchers, injectors, projectors, and anything else imaginable. Since the study of Kori is so far-reaching and knowledge isn’t easily available, trial and error and good-old-fashioned experimentation lead to most discoveries.

A Synthesizer’s tools can take nearly any form, but they are always powered by one primary Kori state: gaseous, liquid, or solid (typically crystals). How your Synthesizer maintains this supply and regains Power Points is up to you, but it should make sense within the confines of your story. As a volatile bio-energy, various forms of the Kori are cultivated to replenish or self-replicate as long as the source is not exhausted. A crystal may continue to grow and recharge itself, and liquids or gases may congeal from the atmosphere itself, given a proper receptacle.

Trappings:

When taking New Powers for the Synthesis background, the Synthesizer must decide what form the device takes, as well as the visuals produced. Kori powered technology creates incredible effects ranging from the fantastically obvious to the deviously covert. Energy fields, bolts or beams, ripples and waves, explosions and flashes are all common, as are sounds and subtle sensory effects.

Synthesis Edges:

Synthesizers have access to any Edge requiring Arcane Background (Weird Science), per the SWADE rulebook.
